Tour Guide Louvre

We are planning on visiting the Louvre and would like to sign up with their 1 1/2 hour guided tour for our family group of 7. When you order a guide online the maximum number you are allowed to pay for is 6. Can we put our order in for two transactions 3 then 4 for example or do they only allow 6 for clients per guide?

Thank you

If you could link to the website, we’d know exactly which type of tour you are referring to.

If it’s the introductory tour, these are not private guides, but tours for about 20. You are issued radio headsets, so everyone can hear, follow and see. It’s not limited to six people, but do buy your tickets as early as possible. Yes, just divide it up under two different names.

Thank you! You answered my question. Do you know if you have an actual guide and is it worthwhile as an introduction?

I’ve taken numerous French-language art tours and short courses from the Louvre staff but never the English introductory tour. Mine were excellent, so I suppose yours would be too. BTW, these aren’t volunteer docents as found in US museums, but PhDs in Art History. However, what they do is quite interesting and done for a general audience. You can ask questions. These tours fill fast.

We did the introductory tour recently and I wasn't terribly impressed. The guide chose pieces that didn't particularly interest me. I am comparing it to two other tours I have taken; the vatican and the Borghese gallery. I would compare tours with other companies, such as Fat Bike Tours and Paris Walks to see which is the best fit.

Also, if you want to see the Mona Lisa, she's in a new wing. The way the Louvre tour works, you have to exit the Denon wing after the tour to return your headset, but you are only allowed to enter 2 other wings. If you do this tour, return your headsets when you are ready to leave for the day, not right after the tour ends or else you risk being denied entry into an area you want to see.
