Tour De Mont Blanc

Has anyone hiked the Tour of Mont Blanc and can you suggest hotels, hostels, etc along the way?
My preference would be to stay at the lower priced hotels along the route.
We are planning on going from Sept 7 - 17th. Has anyone hiked the trail this late in the season?

If you are self guiding, you could invest in the Cicerone guide books:

You could also consider self- guided outfitters. Do an internet search. My experience with self guided is limited to the UK and Germany.
