It starts with two days in Nice, flirts with the southern Alps, makes its way to the Pyrenees for only two days, then a rest and two race days along the Atlantic near La Rochelle. From there it crosses central France to Lyon, a week in the Alps, and an Individual Time Trial up La Planche des Belles Filles.
Most of these places aren't covered in the Rick Steves books. So, those who know - Where would you go to see the Tour? What place would you be happy to spend, say, a week in? Take a day or two to see the Tour, but also see and do other things in the area?
