I've read on the forum about changes underway to how tolls are paid in France. We will be driving in early April from Lyon to the Dordogne and Lot valleys and then to Toulouse. Will we still be able to tap our credit cards to pay our tolls?
The new toll system known as "Free Flow" is currently only in service on a 90 kilometer section on the A79 highway which you will not take to go from Lyon to the Dordogne (you may take the A89 via Clermont Ferrand)
The A69 between Toulouse and Castres should have this system, but this highway is not yet built!
And once past Brive-la-Gaillarde, you will no longer see the slightest highway during your stay in the Lot or the Dordogne.
So don't worry and use your credit card with or without contactless, or cash like everyone else.
Thank you, JoLui! I was hoping you would reply.
And choose the correct lane. https://simplefrance.com/road-tolls-in-france/
Not relevant to your specific itinerary, but to flesh out an incomplete statement made by a previous respondent, flux libre (free flow) will be implemented on A13 between Paris and Caen this year (2024), so it is becoming a bit more widespread than just travelers heading west out of Digoin on the new A79.
