leaving for 14 days in France, Germany, Austria and Holland. What are the tipping standards for guides and drivers? I have heard various numbers tossed about.

Thanks again L

Will you have private guides or are you going on a tour? IF you are using private guides are they the company owner or an employee of a company?

Sorry for so many questions....to me these have a bearing on my answer.

For small-group day tours in France (2010, 2014, 2015 and 2019), we tipped 10 Euros per couple, with the exception of a fantastic guide who was tipped twice that. The other folks on the tours tipped the same. In Germany, we had one private guide for a day in 2015 - we tipped him the same amount.

For taxi drivers, we usually round up, and tip a couple of Euros, but if the driver is a jerk, we don't tip at all.

The tour company should give you guidance. On both Rick Steves and Road Scholar tours all tips for guide and driver are included so it depends on the tour company.

The local tours should expect only minimal tipping. Maybe 10€ depending on how long the tour is.
