A group of 6 is staying in a house near Toulouse, and having a private chef come to the house and prepare dinner for us one night. I'm wondering what to tip? She's the owner of the company, if that matters, and I don't think she'll have a server with her. Thanks for any help!
Would you tip the owner of a brick and mortar restaurant?
The person you are hiring has decided what her time and skill are worth and that's how much you are paying her. What special service is being provided beyond what she is charging for?
nothing just pay the bill
First of all France does not have a tipping culture; you would normally not tip a waiter. You certainly don't tip someone who has set a price for their personal services as chef. She charges what she hopes to make. Even in the US with its tipping culture you don't tip the owner of such a service.
No tip is required or expected. Recommendations to others will be appreciated.
My wife and I do tours professionally, and charge accordingly. We set our prices to reflect that fact and I expect your chef will do the same.
A tip is a nice gesture, and accepted, but it is always slightly embarassing.

For some, extremely embarrassing.
Thanks, all!

Probably the best response. And the latter would be better than any tip.
