Time needed to transfer from TGV to plane at CDG

We need to purchase TGV tickets from Avignon to Paris (CDG stattion). We have tickets to fly from Paris to Dublin on Air France, so the train station is in the same terminal as our departing flight. Is 1:45 enough time to check bags and make it through security to our flight?

1:45 is early enough to arrive at CDG.

If there is a delay on the train, then you may miss your flight. Or you may miss the cut off time where you're allowed to check bags.

If you're late for your flight you may be responsible for rebooking fees.

We just did basically the same thing this past May (came from Lyon instead of Avignon). Our trip was on a Thursday which is typically a strike day for trains so our original train that was scheduled to leave at 9 was cancelled. We hopped on the 8:00 train (no issues) and arrived at the airport at 10. Our flight was at 1:50 in Terminal 2E. It took about 3 hours to get to the our terminal, go through check-in, security, customs and walk to our gate. The extra hour gave us time to have our breakfast/lunch before boarding our flight comfortably or we would have been running to the gate with the original arrival time of 11:00. I was glad we had to take the earlier train because we needed that extra hour. I would be very nervous about only having 1:45. Just my experience. Definitely check the status of your train a few days before you leave in case it gets cancelled. Getting on another train (earlier) is no problem but if you do not know it has been cancelled you will be getting a later train and there goes your 1:45.

Have you thought of flying from Marseille to CDG to Dublin, adding this leg onto the ticket you already have. That way your bags are checked through, and if the first flight is delayed, they will put you on the next one. I wouldn't bother with the train.

And Aer Lingus has a seasonal route direct from Marseille to Dublin, and a route from Lyon to Dublin (which may be easier to get to than going all the way to Paris).

To answer the original question, 1h45 is tight. I would normally say arrive 2 hours beforehand for a strange (and large) airport. And your train could (but probably won't be) late. You will need to do check-in + security + passport control (exiting Schengen Area).

You should know that Terminal 2, where the train station is located is, in fact, an assembly of 8 terminals, some of which are reached by shuttle trains. The train station is downstairs between four terminals: Terminals C, D, E and F. You probably won't need to take a shuttle train for an interior EU flight, but 1:45 minutes is risky.

While a ticket to Dublin is not as expensive a disaster as one to Australia or the States it is still risky to come from a great distance and give yourself minimal time to connect for a flight. You rarely can rebook missed flights -- rebooking is allowed before the flight goes, after that the ticket generally has no value on trade in even with a fee.

You probably make it if everything goes smoothly and if your Dublin flight is not with a budget airline that closes the check in 40 minutes before the flight.

It is always safest to come in the day before an important flight and absolutley if it is a long distance/expensive flight.

Thanks for all the advice! We have decided to take the train the day before our flight out of CDG and stay close to the airport. We have to be in Dublin as scheduled as our flight back to the USA leaves the next morning.

kejohnson166, So you are travelling:

  • Day 1: Avignon to Charles de Gaulle Airport (stay overnight)
  • Day 2: Charles de Gaulle to Dublin airport (stay overnight)
  • Day 3: Dublin to USA.

Two nights in hotels just to fly to the USA? Could you not fly direct to the USA in one hop?
Try using http://www.rome2rio.com/ and enter in your actual start (Avignon) and end points. That should give you some options.
