My husband and I will be in Paris in the beginning of June. Do you suggest we purchase tickets in advance for Musee d’Orsay?
I’m watching the official ticketing site for my visit in April as I want to see the special exhibition on Manet and Degas for which reservations are definitely needed. I’d suggest you keep an eye on your dates…or really, a few weeks ahead of your date and see how quickly they are going.

Here is the info on the Manet and Degas exhibition if that would be of interest to you.

I would never approach the Orsay without a timed ticket, which allows you access in a separate security line from the main line. Before COVID there was rarely a line if you had a ticket. NOw since most people have timed tickets it is more complicated but you are still better off with a timed ticket -- there are separate lines for each time slot e.g. if you arrive and there are 50 people in the 2 pm line, and you have a 1:30 ticket, you go into the 1:30 line ahead of them.
Do not go on a Tuesday; the fact that the Louvre is closed and the Orsay was closed the day before means the lines are at their worst and the crowds inside awful. things like the cafes and coat check are a nightmare. (always have a plan B for your coat if wearing one as that line can be half an hour long on a bad day. -- I now carry a lightweight bag I can stuff my jacket into so I don't have to check it.
Regarding the Manet/Degas exhibit at the Orsay.
Looks like the tickets for this exhibit include the standard entrance ticket to the permanent collections in the museum. If one purchases a tiimed ticket for the Manet/Degas exhibit, are you allowed entry into the museum earlier so you can get to the Manet/Degas exhibit on time, or is the timed ticket simply for entrance into the museum proper and you then make your way to the Manet/Degas exhibit as quickly as possible?
Hi
if we have the PMP, is a timed reservation still needed for these special exhibits ?
thanks
No time slot needed for Museum Pass holders according to the ticketing site for the Manet-Degas exhibition.
"Holders of a Paris Museum Pass or of a ticket purchased from a third-party vendor do not need a time slot reservation."

@KFrog: I just bought my ticket including the reservation for the Manet-Degas exhibition. ON the ticket it says:
"This ticket gives you dedicated access to the reserved temporary exhibition. This ticket also gives you access to the permanent collections and temporary exhibitions available on the day of visit, subject to availability.
What happens if you arrive early or late? If you arrive outside your time slot you forfeit your reserved access. Your ticket remains valid on the same day of reservation under the same waiting conditions as visitors without a time-stamped ticket."
BTW, to others familiar with the Orsay , this ticket specifically says Door A for entrance instead of Door C where ticket holders usually go in. In looking at the FAQ it appears they may be alternating Doors A and C based on times.
Thank You, Pam.

I bought a timed ticket for one of the earliest times, and by passed the people in line. Didn't have to wait at all. So I very much advise buying a ticket in advance.
