Three night and Four days Roundtrip on trains from Paris first week of October 2025

Hello! I am planning a trip to France in October. After a long weekend in Paris my wife and I would like to explore other parts of France. Any suggestions on a Four day, three night itinerary where we would not be traveling more than three hours per day on trains? Looking for history, architecture, food and wine of course! We would leave Paris on Sunday morning and return to Paris Wednesday evening.
Thank you!

Strasbourg ticks all your boxes. So does Lyon.

If you can put the side trip on the front end, this would be better, so you finish where you fly home from. Lyon is a good choice and if you have to do the side trip last, then I'd train back very late to CDG if possible and spend the last night there before the flight home. You would want to get dinner before that -- either in Lyon or in Paris before heading to the airport -- or if your flight is late enough in the morning, then just stay in Paris near the RER B that last night and enjoy dinner and a stroll in Paris.

Thanks all. I have been to Strasbourg but not Lyon area. Logistically and sight seeing-wise, is there enough to do in Lyon for three nights and four days? Can we use public transportation to get to wineries? Any other suggested sights outside of Lyon that make sense for a quick day trip? I would rather day trips and stay in same hotel versus packing up and moving hotels.
FYI- we are a couple in our early 60's in average physical condition- we do not mind walking and medium hikes. Even riding bikes if not too far. Thank you again.
