We are traveling to Paris in mid-June with 3 kids (2 adults) via Frankfurt DB. We are staying near the Bourse de Commerce. Does anyone see a need to make reservations for dinner that night near that area? We will eat at our standard American dinner time of probably 6pm. In fact, we'll probably be early eaters the entire trip. How critical are reservations at restaurants for a group our size? When traveling to large American cities I typically do make reservations a day or two before--should I continue this practice or is it unnecessarily limiting our options? Also, if anyone has good dining suggestions near Bourse de Commerce, please share. Thanks!
Yes, you should reserve, but be aware that the earliest most restaurants serve is 7 pm. There are some exceptions such as the Breizh Café for a meal of savory galettes and sweet crepes https://www.breizhcafe.com/montorgueil, or the Bouillon Pharamond. https://www.petitbouillonpharamond.com/?locale=fr for typical French food.
How far in advance should I reserve do you suggest?
A week or two if you know your arrival time. For example, we are reserving today for restaurants in Strasbourg 8 days from now.
If you're dining at a small restaurant with limited seating or any of the popular Instagram restaurants, I would book several days to a week or more in advance.
In addition to restaurants which have set dinner hours, there are many cafes and brasseries that are open all day or with early dining hours. Some take reservations, some don't.
Cafés and brasseries will be open all day and into the night. Reservations are not normally required at cafés.
Restaurants open at 19h30, maybe 19h. I always reserve restaurants. How far in advance I reserve depends upon the location.
Plenty of brasseries and cafes have big signs saying "Servie continuie".
