Hi, we've visited the Palace and Gardens several times. We are planning another trip and I'd like to take a little time (2 hours?) to explore the town before taking the train back to Paris. I would like to see Notre Dame Cathedral in Versailles and there's also mention of a market on select days. Any other ideas or suggestions for a few hours in the area surrounding the Palace? Thank you!
Still on my list: Musée des Carrosses opposite the main entrance of the chateau with a fabulous collection of royal carriages.
When I was in Paris last March, I took the RER to Versailles, and spent the day exploring the town.
I didn't go near the Palace area at all.
The market is indeed worth a visit!
Bring shopping bags for all the food items you will buy!
It is quite big, and in four different buildings, as I recall.
There are also plenty stalls outside too.
There are lots of little streets leading off the market area, and on the way from the train station, to explore.
You won't be stuck for things to see, and it is a photographer's dream.
Thanks for your feedback -- I'll add these to my spreadsheet!
