Hi, we are planning a family getaway during our stay in France this summer to the Puy du Fou there. We´d love to take advantage and enjoy some local villages nearby, but not sure if there is much to see. We are aiming at some nice villages that get a real feeling of rural France. One other option we are considering if nothing is appealing nearby Puy do Fou is to go to the natural parc du Marais Poitevin. Thanks for sharing ideas!

Vouvant is such a village. Very small, though.
Also Clisson if you prefer a small town (as long as you're not there around 21 June, when there is a huge heavy metal festival).
Otherwise, the Marais Poitevin is a good call, and you could also check out Noirmoutier - if you there, aim for low tide to drive on Passage du Gois.
