Things to do near Chamonix

We are doing the My Way Alps tour this July and our last stop is Chamonix. I'm thinking we may be all "mountain'd out" by that point and will have had our fill of trams, gondolas, glaciers and ice caves. So I'm trying to find something else we can do for our last day. I'll have a 15 and 19 y.o. with me. Id like to keep it no more than an hour away from Chamonix whether by train or bus.
Any suggestions?

Swimming might be nice since it will be mid summer and we probably lwon't have had a chance to swim on this trip.

I am considering a day trip to Annecy although I haven't researched it much yet to see what is there.

Are you planning to stay a couple of days after the tour ends?

Are you flying home afterwards, from where?

Annecy is a nice place with a beautiful crystal clear lake, many good restaurants, outdoor markets, and delicious gelato!
Consider staying a couple of days if time allows it.

Enjoy your trip!

@priscilla

The following day when the tour ends we are heading to Geneva for 2 days and flying home from there.

Hello,
Can't speak from experience, but as part of a longer trip next year I did a fairly thorough search for things to do while using Chamonix as a base, beyond just the main mountain activities.

  • Annecy looks great. Variety of beaches at different spots around the lake for swimming, seeing the old town, and biking around the lake are all things we're looking forward to.
  • Lac de Passy - much closer than Annecy. Has a nice looking mountain lake for swimming, bbq's to use, boats/floats to rent, petanque courts, etc.
    • Semnoz Resort - Maybe a little too much like your other mountain activities, but I liked the look of their mountain coaster and motorless ATV that you ride downhill
    • Le Bouveret, Switzerland - Short drive to see Chillon Castle, and possibly their indoor/outdoor aquaparc (maybe not for the age of your kids though) -Sportif Richard Bozon, Chamonix - Close to home. Good looking indoor/outdoor swimming facility. We might check it out for a few hour or a rainy day.

By train, Annecy is likely the easiest, and the most memorable, but perhaps by the end of the trip, the closer sites might be what you're looking for.

Cheers,

Hi,
We are on the July 5th my way tour. On my itinerary I added an extra night in Chamonix so we plan to go to Annecy--I read that it is a beautiful place to visit. Then we are spending 2 nights in Geneva before heading home. Have a great time.

Chamonix’s outdoor town pool is reopening in early
July after a refurbishment.

We just miss it, but looks like a nice spot to relax with some views!

You might consider spending at least 1 night in Annecy vs Geneva. While there's always things to do in any city, Annecy is more charming than Geneva. Easy to get between the two; it's a 45 minute bus ride.
