If you are someone who tends to be a kind and generous person, beware. This happened in the train station in Nancy two weeks ago: While I was looking around the station my wife waited at the café. A man who had only a single arm approached her and asked for money. She said, "No." Several minutes later we heard a woman shouting and running through the station. When we turned to look we saw a man dash out of the station just ahead of her. We assume he had also asked her for money and when she got out her wallet to give him some he grabbed the wallet and took off!
We need more info. Did the man running only have one arm? Is the one arm pertinent to the story?
Perhaps a kind hearted person would have given a one arm man something. Unless he cut it off for a scam.
If he didn't have any arms, he would of course have been completely 'armless. I think that's the moral of the story.
Well, at least the man was unarmed.
Someone must have disarmed him.
In France we have an expression (black humor) which says:
"Pas de bras, pas de chocolat" (no arms, no chocolate)
He was handy nonetheless.
Aside from getting responses with questionable amputee puns, thelamontster’s post is a good reminder to be wary when traveling. Even a seemingly non-threatening individual could pose a threat, and a thief might not be immediately evident. When traveling, keep your wits about you, and be wary when money and wallets are involved.
Good advice is welcome; good taste can be hard to find.
Even a seemingly non-threatening individual could pose a threat...
Very true. I believe Ted Bundy would approach his eventual victims with one arm in a sling.
Most likely every one you encounter should be viewed initially as a threat. That the way to live your life.
The Gare de Nancy ....I know it well, was there several times during this summer's trip. Never saw an incident like that or any other
incident at all.
Taking out a wallet or coin purse in front of a beggar is the height of stupidity. It’s better if a kind hearted person is smart enough to know to keep their loose change in a pocket away from the valuables.
Where’s Richard Kimble when you need him ?
LOL - Wow! I did not expect so much humor from the Forum. I will be careful not to go out on a limb like that again.
Ha, ha. Great response, thelamontster.
