We read:

Does this mean that wine is not included in the fixed price?

The wine tasting is extra, 4 glasses @ 10 euro apiece.

So there’s not automatically some random wine included in your fixed-price meal, and their wine steward is only proposing that you consider their tasting flight of 4 wines. You’re free, of course, to pick one or more wines of your own. Do they offer wines by the glass, though, or in in carafe, or just by the bottle?

Yes, it's extra, as others have said. But it's only a suggestion. It can be useful if you know little or nothing about wine but want to try some, or if they have a poor by-the-glass selection and you want to try several wines. I've never chosen something like this, because I prefer to pick my own wine.

It is fairly rare for a tasting menu to include wine. This one pretty clearly by listing the add on price indicates it doesn't. And they are talking about one person being served 4 paired glasses with the meal -- an amount that would have me under the table.

Wine at a restaurant in France...best not to be driving, but if you are, please exercise moderation as their blood alcohol limit is about half ours.

Is this a Michelin star restaurant? I wouldn't pay 40 euro in France for four bottles of good wine. 40 euro for four 12 cl tastes seems way too much. At the Bordeaux wine festival last June, they charged 20 euro for 12 similar size tastes. Even in Burgundy, the best wine I've ever tasted was 3 euros for a full pour at a nice restaurant.

Andrew: Average price in US for a so-so quality wine (probably out of a box in the kitchen) is $7 to $9 for a pour that will be between 5 to 6 ounces.
