The Massif Central - France

Heading for Europe a little later this year; also exploring (to us) some rather unknown territory. The first two weeks + in October.

We like ancient culture - churches, old towns, etc.

Any suggestions as to any particular really neat places to visit? We are, due to the time of the year and the topography of that region a bit concerned about the probable weather and how to properly be prepared for it.

As always, MANY THANKS in advance for any suggestions/ideas.

I was near Clermont last week. It was in the 60s lower down during the day, got up to 80 one day, and down to 39 on the Puy de Dôme. We had some hail falling on us. It could be foggy or sunny, and warm and clear. Wool sweater under windbreaker, scarf for the neck, maybe thin wool gloves depending on your altitude. I suggest the Michelin Green Guide for the Auvergne.

Good thinking. Will pack as such. Have ordered the Michelin guide book.

Thanks.
