The Loire Valley

We will be spending 4 nights in this region - any recommendations of places to stay. We were thinking of staying 2 nights on the western end and 2 nights on the eastern side.

We've stayed in Amboise twice and really liked it. It's in the middle. We stayed at Le Manoir les Minimes which was wonderful.

We just got back from France and spent 4 days in the Loire Valley. I would highly recommend Chateau du Pray just a couple miles from Amboise. Absolutely loved it. Beautiful grounds, staff was incredibly kind and helpful, pool was a great bonus and rooms were lovely. Would stay there again in a heartbeat!!

We spent about 10 days in the Loire valley last October; we rented a gite on the Cher river for the middle part of our stay, but stayed in Azay-le-Rideau on the west side for the first 2 nights, and Cheverny on the east for the last 2. I agree that if you're spending 4 nights it makes sense to relocate, to cut down on driving time. I warmly recommend our lodgings: Hotel de Biencourt at Azay-le-R, and La Flanerie chambres d'hotes in Cour Cheverny. The Biencourt was just up the street from two excellent restaurants [La Credence and Cote Cour] as well as from the Azay-le-r chateau. It was an easy drive to Chinon and Fontevraud Abbey. La Flanerie was charming, with a lovely garden, just across the road from the Cheverny Chateau estate. Both of these are recommended in the RS France book. Have a great trip!

I am staying in Vouvray in a B&B for five nights and will drive to the different areas from there each day,the B&B is east of Tours so it is a good location and has great reviews.

The first time I was there we stayed in Blois. It was convenient for the chateaux on the eastern side. Bigger town, more to do in the evening if that's of interest. Second time I stayed in Azay le Rideau, much smaller town but still very nice and I really liked staying here. Convenient for the western side chateaux. Don't remember where we stayed in Blois but I stayed at Hotel Grand Monarque in Azay and I really enjoyed it. Right in town, 5 min walk to chateau.

Many others on this forum recommend Amboise for east and Chinon for west and both look like good choices. I've not stayed in Amboise but visited for Leonardo's house and the chateau. Don't know anything about Chinon but have read good things on here.
