The Camargue by bike

We plan to visit the Camargue as a day trip by car from St Remy at the end of May, primarily to bike along the digue de la mer. Rick suggests renting bikes in Stes Marie de la Mer then riding out towards the Phare de la Gachole lighthouse, but I am wondering about doing it in reverse and starting off in Salin de Giraud.

Hoping people here can comment on whether or not it makes a difference where we start and suggest any stopping points (either by bike, foot or car) in the area. We usually bike much longer distances, but doing the entire Etang du Vacarres in a single day is too ambitious.

Thanks very much.

I have not done both, but I suspect that going from Salins de Giraud is a bit less scenic, because the road is inland for a good portion.
Also, even though traffic is very, very light, the road to the phare de la Gacholle is open to private vehicles, unlike the Digue à la Mer.
And last but not least, I find that the area around Les Saintes Maries de la Mer is more scenic than around Salins de Giraud.

This being said: if Salins de Giraud is more convenient for you, then I am sure it is worth biking from there, rather than driving all the way around to Saintes Maries de la Mer.
