One of the " Close Read " series of art analysis articles by Times writer Jason Farago , this piece about Berthe Morisot ( She was the wife of Eugene Manet brother of Edouard Manet ) is an absolute delight . Part of the tale of Impressionist art and the progression of history in the late Nineteenth century , this peels back the surface and reveals the depth of knowledge contained in a painting . If youve visited The Met , and The Marmottan , you will be pleased . https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/06/04/arts/design/berthe-morisot-in-england.html?unlocked_article_code=rcoYdR_CCmoRKwXnJNbmf_Lr0Vb_8MpP9JlvzBfLI311-We5s8LttEMyh2kk2sXLZkl9kDRpAHWVFwihRZoabiqHh1eQkMm5oJPLoFfMzZIkiUZq0JLOCNy3iVeNP7dUhQd2u4lSg9dh5Lf4_Q7XYGfk9YwLH2lKLHq7Q92hlQ6ivEFTfV705iImf7j9KDS4MOVg0qhS9y9ZgNfBSTmKfxVhyGmTuRCA7IeALvLSOSDHJUtIK9RsvZlgubjDy4n9OnHZ1Kzxdre293OPUvMlChS7SjnrTtFfLWuiEVICHql2uk0qqlzcGMYBAX_xBBuNXy5o-mgppdNx9iyIkZwfjSpK8GDQb-s1_RK3nSZGwtfqDd8Jkdj5&smid=url-share
Steven, thank you so much for this. Her wing of paintings at the Marmotten was my favorite part of that museum and I was not aware of her before.
What a great article - thanks for posting! I'm looking forward to reading all of the other "Close Read" articles.
I love Berthe Morisot and have a couple of her prints in frames (can't afford the real thing). :) I love her portraits but her landscapes are also beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing the article, steven. I do have NYT subscription but I know I miss alot in there, so I look forward to reading it.
ETA: Just finished reading it and wow! Such an insightful look at these paintings. A double thank you, steven!!!
