THANK YOU for being so nice unlike other sites.

After what I just went through on another site about travel to France, I had to come over here and thank everyone for being so kind and generous with information.

I started an innocent thread asking a simple question on another site and it turned into a circus with accusations, insults and condemnation. I am still in shock. I had seen mean answers before but nothing like this.

Here, I always feel so welcomed and though I just started porting on here, I have been reading posts for over 2 years. Kuddos to all of you for being so respectful of others and so nice.

I just had to say it.

Thanks you

Don't forget that the cost for such a nice group of folks is that after you have asked questions and completed your trip you have to stick around and contribute answers yourself.

I have a feeling I know which forum you refer to, it is the wild, wild west over there, eh? Life's too short for all that static, glad you're hangin' here!

photo,

Speaking for myself, you're very welcome! I've seen the "flaming" that happens on other travel forums, and the group here seems to excel at avoiding that type of rubbish and just providing travellers with good, useful information. This forum is more of a "community" of people.

As Nigel mentioned, I'm sure you'll be contributing here in future as well.

I have found that each forum has its own flavor, and RS is my favorite. Lots of great people here who are willing to share so much information, without drama. And without pushing the "if you don't do it this way, you're doing it wrong" mentality. I'm very thankful for all the feedback and tips I've received here, and I'm looking forward to sharing my trip report when we get back. :)

But in all fairness Photo..., you did display quite a bit of attitude on that site. The webmaster would not have tolerated that here. On either side.

I did not show any attitude until attacked.....I have had so many nasty encounters over there, I just lost it and fought back. I am usually such a nice even tempered person that it even surprised me.

The attacks stopped and people gave you helpful, courteous advice once you let them have it. The rude ones knew only their way of doing things, most of which involves solo travel rather than taking care of a family, and were disrespectful when your plans were different from theirs. You're right that people here are respectful.

".. it turned into a circus with accusations, insults and condemnation"

With that description, I really feel that could be only one site!

Edit: Okay, I was wrong. Jeez, no shortage of hotheads on travel forums. Peace out!

I sent a private message to tell you what site but I didn't want to post it publicly cause I was unsure about the rules....

I used to be pretty active on the Frommers site and it was fine, but they went through several business machinations and the bottom fell out.

Holy Flippin' Cr*p!

I got nuthin'.

I liked the one whining because some people don't ever leave Trip Reviews ;-) Heh-heh.

I would, however, love to drink wine with pariswat...all the way home from the store :-)

wow . . .

anyway Photobear:

Yes, most groceries stores deliver. And it's normal to get things like bottled water and milk delivered. And plenty of people living here get that stuff delivered all the time.

Monoprix CAN be more expensive than Franprix, but in my neighborhood, I've found that it's often the other way around. Anyway, the price differential would not be enough to make a difference for you during your short time here. Convenience would be the most important thing.

At the bigger stores, there will be a place next to the check-outs with a sign that says "LIVRAISON" and maybe a logo of a truck or something. That's where you'd head with your purchases if you'd like them delivered.

And yes, sometimes/often, shops use bicycles with huge trailers on the back for their deliveries.

The other thing to be mindful of is that often the main big grocery stores are closed on Sundays. But there are often smaller stores open Sundays at least until 1pm or 2 pm, you'll just have to check in your neighborhood.

Wow, that was quite a thread. I think all the information you needed was SOMEwhere in there, but it would be hard to ferret it out!! So I just wanted to put it all together here.

And here I thought it must have been the TA forum. There are plenty of people who give excellent advice on that site, but many people just rudely jump all over posters for reasons that seem absurd. There's not very much of that here, at least not lately.

I like this forum and also Trip Advisor, between the two of them you get a very good balance.I have never encountered any adverse commentary on TA.

I use all three of the forums. People do not normally get thrashed on any of them. There are exceptions, but often they are somewhat provoked.
