So I'm on the SNCF website checking costs for going from Paris to Avignon. Its the same price whether I say I have a France only train pass or not. I thought there was a lower fare or just a reservation cost when using pass. What am I doing wrong?
I do not know what date you are looking at. I picked a random one July 18
It depends on the train time if the pass rate is lower than the non pass rate. There seems to be some of the early booking lower rate seats available.
Other than that not sure except there are a limited number of seats available to pass holders on a train - your train n=may not have any left
I would have thought that SNCF feature would work differently than it appears to be doing. However, that's also not the standard place for a rail pass traveler from outside Europe to book a seat reservation. Try this one instead: https://ricksteves.raileurope.com/us/rail/point_to_point/triprequest.htm. Typical cost on a domestic TGV is $12 but goes up to $23 as supply gets lower.
Laura... you are so smart.
