TGV from CDG to Avignon and back

It has been many years since we have done this route as we usually rent a car at CDG for our explorations. Has anyone taken it recently? Cost? Reservations are still needed? We plan to rent a car at the Avignon TGV station for touring Provence. Any responses will be most welcome!

Yes, you will need reservations. Book early and allow for enough time to get through customs and grab your bags but it's really convenient and the signage is good in the airport. It's a great train ride and a nice way to catch a nap rather than drive after the flight. The rental car stations are outside Avignon station and super quick process.

To clarify the issue about reservations on TGVs- when you book a ticket for a TGV or IC train, it will include a specific, reserved, seat assignment. Advance purchases for long-distance trains are often recommended, as they can come with considerable savings over a last minute purchase. However, if taking the train right after deplaning a long flight, be sure to allow extra time in case of delays. The only time you need to book a seat assignment separately is if you are using a pass, like a Eurail pass.

I just returned from a trip to Province with my family. We used the TGV and other trains in fr from CDG to Avignon and return its possible to avoid going in to Paris. I use Trainline to make reservations so check for the train schedule. Book early for best rates. Excellent service.
I rent a car in Avignon. Lots of options and easy access from the station. I do recommend using a gps map app on your phone. The navigation system in fr cars can be confusing. I have rented cars all over fr using hertz and found the navigation systems difficult.
