We are landing at Terminal 2C at CDG coming from Chicago, meeting up with our son who's coming from Madrid and is landing at 2F at the same time. We have to go through passport and customs and get luggage; our son has no luggage and no passport issues since he's arriving within Europe. We all need to get to Avis rent a car once we're done. How and where can we meet our son ?
How about the Avis desk for Terminal 2 C/D ?
This site contains detailed maps of the terminals, including their various services. You can agree on a location:

If the wait is going to be long, a place to sit would be nice, or even a cafe for refreshments.
The rental car offices should be pretty well sign-posted in the terminal. Cafes like Starbucks or Paul might be duplicated in several locations.
There are two Avis desks in T2.
One serves A/B/C/D, the other E/F. The one for C/D is one level below the arrival halls for those terminals. If you don't go through the train station area or the Sheraton, you can't screw up. The person landing at F will pass one Avis desk and/or the hotel /rer complex (depending on what level he's moving on) enroute to where you'll be. In both cases the Avis desk is grouped alongside the counters for other rental agencies.
You could work it backwards, but you're the one with the luggage.
You can do the paperwork for the car at any desk in the airport.
