Taxis at train stations

Hi all,

We are so close to our European trip. We will be traveling by train, and be using public transportation in all of the cities. That being said, for those places where we are not within 500 - 600 meters from the train station, I want to hire taxis to take us to our hotels, to avoid the metro with our luggage. I've read about and downloaded the G7 app. However, I wanted to know whether there are taxi stands at Gare du Nord (for a 9:45 pm arrival).

Thanks in advance,

The taxi stands at Gare du Nord are on the west side exit, near where the Eurostar arrives. They are not in front of the station.

Make sure you understand how the app operates when picking up a taxi at a stand, there are NO fixed fees/fares unless you are 5 or more people. Also, make sure the driver starts the meter.

And also, make sure you go to the official taxi line and do not let anyone who tries to convince you to join them before or out of the line do it ! There are scam artists at Gare du Nord. Be sure to get in the official taxi line

there are also scammers in the official line at Gare du Nord -- so be sure the meter is running and that there is no enormous fixed fee. There is a small start fee -- but there are many reports of scammers trying to charge the fixed fee from CDG at Nord e.g. 53 or 58 Euro.

I had trouble using the G7 app. I was able to book one ride in advance to get us to the train station on our last day in Paris, but I had a lot of trouble with the app whenever we were out and about in the city and needed a ride to somewhere that made the Metro inconvenient. I had better luck with Uber in those situations, but even that was hit or miss. It made things hard on my 15 year old who is about to have ACL surgery since she had to do more walking than I anticipated. We were a party of 5, which obviously limits the number of taxis that can pick us up. But there were so many Mercedes vans around I thought it would be a convenient way to get around.

Rather than Uber, I have had good luck using Bolt or FreeNow, both which have apps.

Out of curiosity how much should a taxi be from Gare du Nord to say the Sorbonne?

Also be aware that you could have quite a wait for a taxi depending on how many big trains arrive at once. Similar to trying to catch a cab at the airport. You might consider walking a little ways to a nearby taxi stand or hotel if the baggage is luggable.

For a taxi from Gare du Nord, I would reserve a car with https://www.sncf-connect.com/en-en/train/train-services/mon-chauffeur. The last time that I took a Taxi Parisien from Gare du Nord, the driver told me it was a flat rate of 53€ to near Bastille Metro station because I was going to an address on the Right Bank but it would be 58€ if I were going to the Left Bank. LOL! I gave him points for ingenuity and having a consistent story but I did not pay him 53€ when we got to my destination.
