I am thinking of taking the train from Dijon to Strasbourg, walking through Strasbourg to Kehl, Germany to continue on to Baden-Baden. However, there is only 1 hour and 17 minutes between trains. In case my walking pace starts to lag, I thought that a taxi could help me finish the trip (it is only 7 km). Does anyone know if you can flag a taxi or whether there are specific taxi stands where you must get a taxi. We tried to flag taxis in Rome to no avail until finally we clued in that you needed to catch them at a taxi stand.
Do you regularly walk this distance? Google Maps is estimating walking time at least as long as the time that you have. I don't know the taxi situation. You could walk along a route also served by public bus (#2 does most of the route), but that's also pretty slow. I assume that you're heading to the main station on the far (German) side of the river.
According to my Google Maps app, it would take more than 1:17 to walk from train station (gare) to train station (bahnhof), but there are trains every hour from Kehl to Baden-Baden, with one change. Not knowing your arrival time in Strasbourg, I couldn't check specific times. What is your reason for wanting to walk to Kehl? Seeing a bit of Strasbourg? Or? You can check the DB website for all the trains. Sorry, don't know how to do a link.
We are stopping over in Strasbourg to visit the town (albeit briefly). I have looked at the schedules in a bit more detail and we will likely catch a later train in order to walk at a more leisurely pace. We regularly walk lots (two very active dogs) and walk fast (long legs) so an hour and a half walking is normal.
I am a little confused. You do know that the stations of Kehl and Strasbourg are linked by train? And that at Kehl all you have to do is change platforms? And that that area of the Rhine is primarily industrial?
Thanks for the tip. I did not see a train connection between Strasbourg and Kehl when I searched for Strasbourg to Baden-Baden so I thought I had to walk.
