Taxi from Orly

Just a heads up for travelers planning to arrive at Orly, taking a taxi to Paris. This is a link to the official taxi fare limits to and from the airport:

https://www.service-public.fr/particuliers/actualites/A15396?lang=en

After clearing border patrol at Orly (which was fast and easy), we exited the airport to see a bunch of taxis and guy who said we could get to Le Marais for €56. I told him the standard fare limit was €48 (which I knew from the website). He says these taxis take you right now, €56, or we can go over there (50’ away) for the €48 taxis, in 30 minutes. Suggesting why wait half an hour to save €8?

Liar! We went to the official taxi stand and waited two minutes. Taxis were flowing into that queue. Ours was €48.

Do not be fooled!! (By the way, we did not use Uber because our Airbnb hostess advised that Le Marais on Sundays limits car traffic; but taxis are okay.)

Stamp that cabbie’s forehead with the scarlet letter “L” Anyone going anywhere in a taxi
that’s not in the official taxi “line” is showing their naivety and just asking to be ripped off.

The taxi queues at ORY are well defined. There is one line for Paris (fixed fares), and a second for suburbs (metered fares). The fixed fares into Paris are 45€/36€ to the Right/Left Bank respectively (for up to 4 passengers and luggage). Drivers are not tipped. Do not accept offers from clandestine drivers soliciting from within or near the terminals. Give the driver your written destination.

Good point about special access given only taxis. Only taxis, or buses, may use HOV lanes (specifically from CDG along A1 into Paris), and bus lanes within Paris. A number of streets are closed to all vehicles except taxis, particularly in the Marais.

Good on you to dodge the scam!

Unrelated: I love the automatic translation of the Service-Public website. "Races to airport" is cracking me up. French for "[taxi] ride" is "course" which also translates to "[competitive] race".
