Taxi from Le Havre to Honfleur

We will be on a Viking cruise stopping in LeHavre on a Thursday in October, 2018. Shore excursions (and prices) are not available for booking yet, so I am undecided what our plans may be. There is an included excursion to Paris, which we could do, but we have been there before and may choose to visit someplace else. I am considering a trip to Honfleur. If the ship's excursion sells out before we can book, or the cost is unusually expensive, can we get there by taxi? Can anyone provide information about how easy it is to get a taxi, and how to handle the return trip? I have seen prices around 50/60 euros each way. Is that accurate? We will be in port from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. I had high school French and can still "converse" in half sentences, will that do?

Thanks for any suggestions you might have.

While I don't know about taxi between the two cities, I would think it'd be possible or you could check into car rental out of Le Havre. You don't need to speak French in those areas. I have been to Honfleur and I highly recommend it. I don't speak more than "polite" phrases--hello, goodbye, please, thank you, etc. I recommend always preceding a request with Bonjour madame and leaving with merci, au revoir. Also when entering a store, museum, etc. The very first interaction with a French person should be Bonjour. I have made three trips to France and I find the people to be quite helpful and lovely.

According to rome2rio.com, your estimate for the taxi fare seems about right. There should be taxis available. If you have trouble finding a taxi in Honfleur (I doubt it would be a problem), just pop into the nearest hotel and ask them to call one for you.

According to the same site there is also regular bus service from Le Havre central bus station to Honfleur for about 5 euros each way. But I think they only run every 2 hours or so. You'd have to check out the schedules online.

Joanne, if you google "Le Havre shore excursions" you will find a lot of offers of interest, usually less expensive than the ship tours. The ship excursion to Paris is foolish and over-priced. Three hours there, three hours back and about an hour in Paris as you fly by the sights.

Norma,

The Viking ship's excursion to Paris is included in the cruise fare ( one designated free excursion in every port), so no cost for that. The Paris excursion is 10.5 hours long, but it is a long ride for a panoramic bus tour of the sights and several hours free on our own. The advantage is that we are guaranteed a place on that tour, and the only cost is what we might spend while there.

I have looked for shore excursions to Honfleur by outside vendors, and they seem quite expensive, as in over $300 a person, unless I have misunderstood the information I found. I am not willing to take on the responsibility for gathering a dozen or so people to share a tour to try to bring the price down. I will take another look.
