Have decided on a taxi due to luggage and age considerations...how much can we expect to pay?
Hi,
Depends on time and day of week, but it starts from 15 euro without traffic, and I'd say no more than 25 with traffic.
I say do not do it but if you do use taxifarefinder.com for an estimate. It could be my bad luck but this trip has been a traffic nightmare for me every time I tried a taxi. Finally, my husband, "Mr. I hate the Metro", decided that Line 14 is the only way to go. There are elevators at both ends of the trip. The walking that you would do with your luggage to get from the train to the taxi and then from the taxi to the train is about the same as the walking that you do if you take line 14.
I understand your choice of a taxi due to your considerations, but have a Plan B (maybe an Uber-type ride, or some kind of private cab? I don't know what the options are in Paris. Or the métro, as JHK suggests). When we were in Paris last month there was a strike by taxi drivers, and we saw a super-long line of people waiting at Gare de Lyon for a taxi (there was maybe one taxi at a time in the long alley reserved for taxis; we were wondering if it had "crossed the picket line," so to speak). It was just a one-day strike, but of course it was the day my husband's work colleagues had to get across Paris to the Gare de Lyon; I think they ended up taking the métro.
You could try booking the taxi service linked to SNCF; https://monchauffeur.oui.sncf/trip-details The driver waits at the front of the train for you and helps bring your luggage to the car. Last time I used it was for a trip from Gare de Lyon to Hotel R de Paris (very near Gare St Lazare). The cost was around 15€ and the driver tracked the train’s arrival time, which turned out to be great because my train was about an hour late.
