Taxi from Avignon or Perpignan to Figueres train station

We will be traveling from Barcelona to Montpellier by train on a non strike day on 10 May, but anticipate possible problems getting back given our travel arrangements later that week. If we can get a taxi from Avignon or better Perpignan over the border to say the Figures train station, we can likely easily catch a train back to Barcelona. Can anyone suggest how to find out about taxi service? I'm having difficulty finding resources on line. Would love to book something in advance if at all possible. We don't assume the strike will be resolved and would like to plan ahead. I'm a tad bit wary of the bus given reviews I've read, but perhaps my concerns are unfounded. Merci!

Now I am finding on the Renfe-SCNF site that trains may be running from Perpignan to Barcelona, for example, on 14 May. I don't see the same strike warnings on this cross border train. Not sure if I can trust this - can anyone clarify? Many thanks!

Perpignan to Figueres is a long journey by road across a national border (Google Maps reckons it would take 12 hours or so by car) and from Avignon it would be pretty much the whole E-W width of France. It's possible that a very adventurous cab driver might be willing to do it if he didn't have any family responsibilities at home, but he'd probably want a few hundred euros hard cash and to see the notes first. (You'd have to pay for his return trip as well, and probably put him up in a motel.)

Philip, thanks! I'm confused - I thought the distance between Perpignan and Figueres is about 35 miles. Google maps shows the journey at about 52 minutes and a bus journey is showing at about an hour. I understand it crosses the border and that we might need to pay the drive to get back to Perpignan.

Yes, Perpignan to Figueres is about a 45-50 minute drive.

Avignon to Perpignan may make sense by rental car, not taxi, if you need to travel on a day the TGV is unavailable due to strike. It is 244 KM via A-9. Google suggests the car trip would take 2 hr 29 minutes in normal traffic. With a stop for lunch, decent weather, and no major traffic disruptions, I'd estimate no more than a 5-6 hour trip. Cherio !

no idea why it told me that long

Could the setting on Google Maps have been for walking rather than driving, perhaps left over from a recent search? I've done that before, before realizing why the resulting time was so absurd.
