Tannay France

Has anyone spent time in Tannay? we are taking le Boat canal trip and the launching base is Tannay which we can get to easily by train from Paris. Either Tannay or the nearby town of Clamcey are an option to spend a day or two before we launch. Tannay looks quite small and I am hoping to hear about someone's experience there. Probably cannot go wrong with wither for 2 days!
Many thanks

Never been to Tannay, but a quick look at Google Earth shows it is a really tiny town. Only a few restaurants are shown in the town itself and the one supermarket seems to be located at the far end of the town from the boat rental place; about two miles. You may need to use a taxi to stock the boat.

Canal du Nivernais where you will pick up your boat is some distance from the town. I have rented cruisers a number of times, often picked up in rural spots along rivers or canals, and it can be a challenge stocking the vessel. Other than that drudgery I think you would be bored out of your skull after a few days in Tannay. There is a hotel near the canal, Hotel du Morvan, that does not get very good reviews, and a restaurant, L'Estaminet in an even tinier town across the canal and river that gets pretty good reviews.

In any case have a wonderful and safe holiday ditch crawling on the Nivernais.

Thank you for your impressions .. I did G-earth it to explore restaurants, airbnb, places to visit, things to do - I am hoping to hear 1st-hand from someone who spent a day or so there

I haven’t visited Tannay during my holiday last September in Burgundy, but there are a whole lot of similar places (I have visited), think it’s not that special. And if there is nothing specific to see like a château spending an hour or so will be most of the time enough. I would rent a car for the 2 days before the boat trip and visit places you can’t reach with the boat like Vézelay east of Clamecy and Fontenay Abbey near Montbard, both I liked to visit.

For what it is worth, I agree completely with Wil though I change the intro to "I have been to Tannay."

Had the plan to visit it, but skipped it in favour of other places like Vézelay, east of Tannay Château de Bazoches and going west Guédelon. Driving north from the latter to Vézelay along the scenic D958 you can see the Abbey lying on top of a hill what is lovely and I found it impressive too knowing it’s history. Later I attended the Gregorian worship service, still remembering the nuns voices echo in the basilicas interior. Nevertheless think it’s a nice place but there is so much more to see, I would not focus too much on Clamecy.
