Talmont-Sur-Gironde

What are the best things to do in the Talmont-Sur-Gironde region? We will be there about 4-5 days.

Years ago I used to live in Royan, near Talmont, and I haven't been back for quite a while (I have no new information)--but Talmont is a very special Romanesque church --and its little walled town is lovely. There are good beaches at Royan and many places to hike, bike, and camp. Royan is a resort town with many good restaurants for a town its size. You are not too far from Saintes, an old Roman Town. and Cognac where you can see them make Cognac and sample it. There are also many vineyards and wineries. Of course, you can go down the Gironde to Bordeaux. Picasso and Trotsky used to live in the area around Royan but I don't know if you can find many traces of them. Royan was destroyed, by mistake, by American bombs at the end of the war. Much of the architecture is postwar. German blockhouses line part of the coast.
