I want to buy a tablet with GPS to use in France. Does anyone have a recommendation?
Lots of tablets will have GPS, so you should look based on other factors.
Do you want one that has 3G/4G capability, or just WiFi?
What size do you want? Larger screens are easier to read, but also heavier and harder to carry around.
Do you prefer Apple, Android or Windows?
How much music, movies, pictures, books, etc will you want or need to store on the tablet? If the answer is "a lot," make sure you either buy one with large enough built in storage, or plan to buy a micro-SD card to enlarge it. If you want to be able to enlarge the storage later, make sure this is possible (for instance, Apple iPads are not expandable; the storage size you buy is the storage you always have). And check the maximum card size the unit takes. These factors can differ among otherwise similar models. For instance, to use a phone example: the Samsung Galaxy S4 takes up to a 64 GB card, the Galaxy S5 takes up to a 128 GB card, and the Galaxy S6 has no removable memory (like an iPhone or iPad, you have to buy one with more memory built in - it can't be added later).
Just what will you want to do with the tablet besides navigation? My sister needed a tablet for a certain work app, and bought two Android tablets to compare, knowing she'd return one (with the store's blessing). The first was a mid-range one with a reasonable amount of RAM, processor speed, screen resolution, camera quality, etc. The other was a very basic one that the salesman called "My First Tablet," but which was 1/3 the price (only about $50!). After trying them both, she found the cheap one was suitable for what she was using it for (mainly that app, and not much else). But, I found its slowness frustrating for even basic web browsing, and the screen quality is low. The more you plan to do with the tablet, the more "juice" and features you will want. Of course, the other way to look at it is, a cheaper model is less worry if it's lost, stolen, or damaged.
And finally, do you really need a tablet - can you use your smartphone instead? Of course, the tablet is larger and easier to read, but it's another thing to bring, charge, keep track of, etc (not to mention an extra expense to buy).
I just looked up the $50 tablet my sister bought and likes. It's made by DigiLand (which sounds like a fake name, but really is the company), it's still the same price, and it indeed has a GPS: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/digiland-7-8gb-black/8610212.p?id=1219354106671&skuId=8610212
