We are arriving in Paris from London by train on a late Sunday afternoon. I understand Sunday lunch is the big meal for French families but wondering if anyone can recommend a bistro or brasserie around the 6th or its neighboring areas that will easily take a group of 8 (4 adults and 4 kids) for Sunday DINNER!

On the south side of the 6eme - la Coupole or la Rotunde
On the north side - Brasserie Lipp (menus are not available in English).

Given the size of the group I would still make a reservation - a lot of large restaurants like the Lipp and Coupole will take them over the web nowadays.
Yes, definitely reserve even for Sunday dinner. Fewer restaurants are open.
