Summer Itinerary Advice

We are a 60 year old couple planning our second trip to France in July and would appreciate advice on our itinerary. We love visiting local markets, exploring local villages and enjoying delicious food. We’ve been to Paris and Nice in the last few years and are looking to explore different areas. We have not booked our airfare yet, so we can fly into any airport.

We have a total of 14 days - any other places we should consider? Possibly Cassis, Marseille or the Loire Valley.

Lyon: 3 nights
Beaune: 2 nights
Annecy: 3 nights
Chamonix: 3 nights

Thank you for your advice!

You didn’t mention hiking in your list of interests. So I’m not sure you need 3 nights in Chamonix. Will you have a car? We did it as a day trip from Annecy. There was a storm coming in with high winds and there was a chance the lifts would close while we were on the top. So we skipped the lifts and explored the town, which was easy to do in one day and still drive back to Annecy for dinner. Maybe we didn’t plan well enough for rainy day options, but I loved Chamonix. Just wish we could have ridden the lifts!
