My husband and I are planning a trip to Normandy and Brittany next spring. We like to rent an apartment in a town or city for several weeks and explore the area slowly and try to live the local life. Does anyone have a suggestion for a good area or town to stay in that area?
Do you plan to rent a car? Even with a car, Normandy + Brittany is way too large an area to see from one base. I'd suggest getting at least one guidebook with good coverage of those regions and figuring out your top-priority and second-priority destinations. Mark them on a map and see whether you have a cluster or two that suggest an area of focus.
Those areas are often cool and overcast even in mid-summer, so you should be prepared for considerable rain and chilly days in the spring.
Some years ago my wife and I stayed in Bayeux and truly enjoyed it for a week. There is a lot to see in the town, and you can get a tour of the D-Day beaches, if that is something that interests you. Peter
In Brittany you have both eastern and western coasts and towns and cities. Look at Vannes, Carnac, Quimper, St-Malo, Pont Aven , Dinan, Dinard, And of course there is also the center. For Normandy you have coastal towns and cities like Bayeux, Honfleur as well as Mt-St-Michel and also those towns a short distance inland. Even one base in each region would be very challenging. You need more than one base in each province, perhaps two.
