My husband and I will be traveling in July from MSM to Carcassonne to see the Tour de France. We have five nights to fill and we are using public transportation. We are spending the first week of our trip in upper Brittany from Vannes to Brest. We love the water, oysters, wine, and markets. I was thinking about staying in Bordeaux for a few days but am now thinking no after reading comments on the forum. Any help is appreciated. I do not have a RS tour book because we are living in Spain and you can not find them here in any language.
Getting from MSM to either Bordeaux or Carcasonne by train takes a long time since you’ll have to go back to Paris to travel south. I was going to suggest Sarlat la Caneda but this necessitates a 5+ hour trip to get to Carcasonne after taking a 9 hour trip to get to Sarlat. A lot of time sitting on trains.
Since you love water, oysters and wine, why not visit Marseille? A great city on the Med. You could day trip to Arles, Aix or Nice. Take a boat from Vieux Port around Chateau d’If to see the Calanques from the sea and splurge on bouillabaisse.
If you have smart phone or tablet, download Rick’s guide from either Amazon or Barnes & Noble.
I suggest Albi. It is a pretty and interesting town on a river. Can you order Rick's guidebook from Amazon or his website?
Bordeaux is worth a stop. Then go to Toulouse and Albi and then Carcassonne
Yes, I was wondering why you were a no to Bordeaux?
After talking to some moe people we have decided to take the train from MSM to Bordeaux and then to Arcachon. Thank you to those who replied to my post.
