Suggestions for Swiss side trip from Dijon/Colmar area?

This September we're touring the three wine districts of Champagne, Burgundy and Alsace. I've budgeted plenty of time to see what we want to see and more.

I'm thinking of adding a side trip into Switzerland for a day (perhaps morning in Dijon, side trip, sleep in Colmar?). Do you have any suggestions of a nice side trip in Switzerland. Ideally including lake views, mountain views (up from valley), walk a small town or old city center, and lunch before moving on. I don't like to drive more than four hours in a day (to keep my itinery reasonable), so I'm exploring possibilities near the Swiss/French border.

I'm also thinking of a similar trip to Gengenbach, Germany from Strasbourg.

Thanks for your thoughts,

Brad

Brad I will be watching for any input you may receive since my hubby and I will be in Germany for most of September. We plan to visit the Alsace area while we are staying in Staufen. Good luck with your finally planning and happy travels!

I think you should consider the area around Lake Constance (Bodensee). If you stay in the south, around Dornbirn, you are at the base of the mountains, you have the lake, it will be harvest time and you can expect apples to be a major part of every meal. The lake is perfect that time of year, you have Lindau and Mainau to explore, Meersburg Castle, Konstanz, and you can hit Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and even Lichtenstein in a day or two.

Thanks for the suggestion. It sounds like just what I'm looking for.
