Suggestions for restaurants in Paris

We are staying in the 5th district and would like recommendations on a few restaurants in Paris, and not necessarily in the 5th district. We would like at least one that is considered a really good restaurant that is a little higher priced and then some suggestions on good but more modestly priced.

I can recommend Le Petit Chatelet, which is next door to Shakespeare & Company in the 5th. It is across from Notre Dame with great views from the terrace. Not in the 5th but a short walk away on Isle de la Cite is La Rose du France on Place Dauphin - western end of the island. Their foie gras three ways starter was the best thing I have ever had in my mouth. Enjoy.

A favorite of mine is in the 11th. Les Petits Papiers at 18 rue Oberkampf. Very local with great food. It's not too large so I'd definitely make reservations. The chef/owner Thierry prepares some excellent dishes. Living in Florida, I eat a lot of great seafood but the sea bass I had at this resto might have been the best seafood dinner I ever had and the foie gras appetizer with pineapple was over the top!

Our favorites:

Le Pantruche, Caillebotte , Bistro Paul Bert, A la Biche au Bois, Les Cocottes, Les Papilles, La Regalade Saint-Honore. Of these, only Les Papilles is in the 5th. At any of these a great meal will run 25-40 Euro per person, sans vin-a decent bottle will set you back another 25-40. Reservations are probably necessary at all, with the exception of Les Cocottes, which does not take reservations-arrive half hour early, there are also seats at the bar, which was quite entertaining. Le Pantruche and Caillebotte (named for the painter Gustave Caillebotte) are owned by the same group, though distinctly different. A la Biche is quite traditional, with many game selections in season; they are known for their Coq au Vin, killer cheese course at end. Les Papilles is a tasting menu, you get what they bring, and they bring a lot; if you're a rugby fan you'll like the owner. Great wine selection at Bistro Paul Bert and Les Papilles in particular.

Les Papilles and La Regalade can be reserved via email, others require phone call which is easy since most of them speak English, call about 7-8 am PST. Some restaurants will ask you to call or stop by on the day of your reservation to re-confirm.

From RS book - Polidor. Standards, but tasty. Maybe this trip we will go beyond the fixed price menu ... or maybe not. This would be the "more modestly priced" category.

We ate at Pasco the last night of the RS Paris 7-day tour. I thought it was the best of our group meals.
74 Boulevard de La Tour-Maubourg.

For excellent Italian, I'll suggest Gusto Italia, 199 Rue de Grenelle. Some of the best Italian I've had anywhere--including Italy.

I was at Boucherie Rouliere a few years ago. It's in the 6th at 24 rue des Canettes. Definitely the best meal I have ever eaten. Meal for two inluding appetizer (snails), 2 glasses of wine each, and a spectacular dessert cost 105 euros. It's authentic French. A good sign was that most of the patrons were locals. Another good sign was that the Australian couple next to us chose this place due to recommendations from Melbourne friends. Their specialty is beef, and the veal dish I had was outstanding.
If your looking for decor, skip this place. It's very plain inside, the tables are tight together. Don't expect privacy here. There was only one waitress, but she covered the entire place with outstanding service and a big smile. They offer English version menus which was super helpful. We walked into Boucherie Rouliere at 7:00 pm and left at 10:00 pm. It was empty when we arrived, but packed by 8:00 pm. I recommend getting reservations although we got in without them, probably since we were there early per French dinner time. Check out their reviews in Tripadvisor. I'm definitely going back again before leaving Paris.
The only negative was that they charged me 6 euros for water.
