Suggestions for driving route from Nice to Vaison la Romaine

Hi
Looking for suggestions about driving route from Nice to Vaison la Romaine. I would like to incorporate a few stops , perhaps Rousillon, but at the same time don`t want to turn drive into 7-8 hour trip. Am I dreaming? Plan is to rent car in Nice, stay two nights in Vaison la Romaine and return car to Avignon on third day.

Thanks for your ideas-we always value the great suggestions we get here.

Vence, Grasse, and the Grand Canyon du Verdon are on your way. I'd say that driving and stopping for much of this day will be the best part about having the car. Do get a regional driving map for Provence, such as Michelin map #527, which has more detail than an all-of-France map; www.viamichelin.com can also help you plan a scenic or "discovery" route.

Instead of Vaison la Romain consider staying at L'Ecole Buissoniere in Buisson, a 5 minute drive from Vaison la Romaine. A beautiful country farmhouse B&B amid gorgeous vineyards and convenient to all the local sights. I just stayed there and it was great. Try to hit Vaison on Market day. It was a big one and fun.

My wife and I drove from Nice to Lacoste this past May. Along the way we stopped at the Fondation Maeght, had lunch in Cucuron, and explored Lourmarin and still arrived in Lacoste before 6 pm. If you're into modern art and architecture, the Fondation Maeght is top notch. You could replace Cucuron and Lourmarin with any of the hill towns in the Luberon depending on what you're interested in.
