Suggestions For Dijon

Thanks to the advice on this blog we've decided to spend an overnight (I know its not not enough time but at least its something) in Dijon arriving from Paris the morning of Friday, August 10th and returning to Paris the evening of Saturday, August 11th by train. We need recommendations regarding things not to miss seeing/doing in Dijon, hotel (not 5 stars) and dinner suggestions. Lastly, if possible we would like to be able to tour a winery or two during our short stay. I know its an ambitious itinerary. I think Friday and Saturday are market days so hopefully we can walk through Friday or Saturday. We are traveling by train so the winery visits have to be by foot (we don't bicycle ride) public transportation, cab or tour. Thanks in advance. Arlene

The Fine Arts Museum is very good, formerly a palace, in the pedestrian center, an easy walk from the station. It's going through a multi-year renovation but it looks like much of it is open. The website's in French but Google Translate should help.

Don't know about wineries right in Dijon, it seems counter-instinctive to expect them in the city, but I'm sure there are tasting rooms for some of the nearby wineries. Can't help you with lodging or restaurants.

You might consider Beaune as an alternate overnight stop, or for part of your time, an easy 20-minute train from Dijon. The Hotel-Dieu is one of the highlights of Burgundy.

I believe there may be mustard-tasting opportunities. I settled for buying a bunch of little jars of different types. Those glass jars are heavy! At around €1 apiece, they make nice souvenirs if you're near the end of your trip. I, unfortunately, was not.

A chunk of the museum was closed during my visit last year. Details should be on its website.

I would download the "Owl's Trail" tour map from the Tourist Office. Years back, I enjoyed following their paper map, primarily for the grand architecture.
