We’ll be arriving in Chamonix tomorrow afternoon, the 19th and will be there through Tuesday morning. It is supposed to rain tomorrow and Monday. Hopefully we can take the Aiguille du Midi lift Tuesday. Any ideas for rainy days in Chamonix? Thanks
Montreux is only about 2 hours away. Chateau Chillon is awesome and the town is pretty neat anyway.
I like the occasional rainy day on a trip. Gives me permission find a cafe, relax, read a book and practice my French with no particular aim in mind.
Thanks, Fast Eddie. Actually, we were in Montreux last year and went to the Chateau of Chillon, so I know that is a great suggestion. Thank you.
I see that Rick Steves has some rainy day suggestions such as an Alpine Museum and a crystal museum. Not the same as seeing Mont Blanc, but has any one done those?
Hopefully, we'll get a break in there somewhere.
Thanks, Andrew. Actually, we are on a RS tour. We spent the afternoon in Annency, for lunch, strolling around, and a boat ride.
The weather is for snow and rain into. AM., with rain in the PM. We'll do the Mer de Glace cog railway if possible and then the river walk. The Aiguille du Midi is the only lift running, but won't be worth it if it is cloudy.
Relaxing and laundry could also be in the plans.
Thanks for your suggestions Fast Eddie and Andrew.
Gruyere Broc (cheese and chocolate) tours, or perhaps Glacier 3000 has different weather?
I know I'm a bit late, but I took the train to Martigny and back on what I called a "rest day." It was a nice trip and come to think of it the day was a bit dreary. But the train ride was lovely nevertheless. I basically had lunch walked around the town and came back. But there are museums and things to see.
