Suggestions between Nice and Cassis for a 1st Timer!

Hello all, I will be traveling to this area in a few weeks, and need to fill in a couple gaps. I will be spending 2 nights in Marseille, then 2 nights in Cassis, then have one night before meeting up with a friend in Nice. I am a single woman using public transit, so no car unfortunately. I am a foodie, adventurous type who loves to get off the beaten path, so anything out of the ordinary is usually up my alley. Thanks in advance for your info! Also, Cassis should be ok for 2 nights, yes?

Marseilles is one of my favorite underrated cities in France. Because of its history as a port, the mix of nationalities there makes it unique, being settled by people from all the countries on the Med. I've visited twice and have never met any unsavory characters. Just like any large city, be aware of your surroundings. I'm originally from the Bronx and always felt that the borough was slighted. That's why I feel Marseille is the Bronx of France.

As far as food goes, stroll the quais around Vieux Porte for a remarkable selection of cuisines. For great Italian food and super pizza, try Chez Vincent at 25 rue Glandeves about 2 blocks south of the port. If for dinner, make reservations.

Between Cassis and Nice you have Bandol, St. Tropez, and Cannes. Bandol and Cannes have easy train access; I don't know about St. Tropez.

Philip, thanks for your response; I love your comparison of Marseille to the Bronx of France! I'm from White Plains, so know the borough pretty well. I can't wait for France!
