We will be touring Paris in early July, and then visiting friends in SW France for a few days. We would love to plan one additional stop on our way back to Paris...and were considering Tours, Chatellerault or Poitiers. Needs to be accessible by TGV, but otherwise, we're pretty open. I have a feeling that we will be winding down from major sight-seeing, but would appreciate any suggestions on scenic stops/accommodations.
Many thanks!
Chatellerault is of little interest to the traveller, so it's a choice between Tours & Poitiers. For me Tours has the edge because of the opportunity to day trip to a chateau; Villandry, Azay-le-Rideau, Chenonceaux are all close by. And even if you don't day trip, there's more to do in town; it is more lively in my experience.
Hi Andrew! We will be returning from Saint-Maixent.
In SW France, You can stop by Bordeaux France on your way back to Paris. It has easy access to TGV.
