Stores and cafes remain open since strikes are usually by transport, municipal or industrial workers. After all, the strikers have to eat, Often, you can’t tell when one will affect you so just be able to roll with the punches. I once arrived at the bus stop outside Gare de Lyon to make my flight at CDG. Unannounced beforehand, flyers were put saying they were on strike. Off to the Metro and the RER, made it to the airport with time to spare. Got to Versailles nice and early on a drizzly, chilly day to learn “Owing to an industrial action, the opening of the Palace is delayed.” Below that “It will reopen in ____” with the space left blank. It took about 2 1/2 hours occasionally sneaking into the bookshop to stay dry and warm up. I felt sorry for the numerous classes of school children standing in the open courtyard awaiting entry. Look at it as another French travel experience.
