In Rick's radio show/podcast, 'Walking Across Paris' 01/31/2011, Rick and Arnaud Servignat are talking about street/food markets. Rick says Rue Cler is his favorite street market. Arnaud mentions one in Montmarte that he really likes (Rick agrees). We have listened again and again and we just can't make out the name/street. Anyone know the name???? Help!
I don't know, and haven't seen the show, but my Michelin map shows several street markets in the 18th arrondissement, including two that might be considered in Montmartre:
- Ordener, on rue Ordener between Montcalm and Championnet (Guy Moquet metro stop), open Wed & Sat 8-1
- Ornano, on blvd Ornano between Mont-Cenis and Ordener (Simplon metro stop), open Mon, Fri & Sun 8-1
These are both north of the Sacre-Coeur. There are many others, all over the city. I like rue Daguerre and rue Mouffetard, both on the left bank.
There is a great book called "Paris in a Basket" which gives information on all the Paris street markets, day of the week, hours, exact location, etc. Available through Amazon, I think. I gave my copy to a friend moving to Paris and I wish I hadn't.
I don't see that broadcast in the archives so I can't listen to it but it's probably the Rue Lepic market.
Thanks so much for the help! I have the book 'Markets of Paris' by Dixon Long & Marjorie Williams. Got the book after listening to Rick's interview with Marjorie (excellent book and will be very helpful!). We have an apartment in Montmartre for two weeks so we just wanted to know which one was Arnaud's favorite market in Montmartre. We'll check out the suggestions and I'm sure have a fabulous time! Again, Thanks!
