strasbourg xmas market

Hi all:

Does anyone know when the market closes down here? I thought I had read 12/24 (and I still that in some places), but on this site which seems pretty official it says until 12/31.

Last year's program seemed to say it went until 12/31 but then something was marked as canceled...?

Thanks!

I was in Strasbourg for Christmas last year. It usually goes til the 31st, but there were specific terrorist threats against the market this year so they shut it down early.

To be honest, I think it will be hard to know exactly when things will be open this year based on the ongoing terrorism problem. If there are credible threats, things will be shut down, and there is no way of knowing if this will happen or not.

That said, I think Strasbourg doesn't have a great Christmas market, all things considered. (And I really love Strasbourg). It's just kinda blah, split up into a couple of strange little ones aside from the big one in front of the cathedral. Nothing special. The only reason I went this year is because I had hoped it would be open after Christmas, but that was not to be. We only got to enjoy it on the 24th.

Other towns in Alsace might have markets that go on later, and are less likely to be terrorist targets, particularly Colmar. I'd research the dates of those markets if you want to go to one after the 24th.
