My husband and I are thinking of stopping in Strasbourg for a day (will probably need to stay the night) on our way to Paris from Munich. Is it worth seeing?
We used Strasbourg as a stop between Paris and Munich in 2015, and it worked out great for us.
We stayed at the Hotel Hannong, which was an amazing value for money. https://www.hotel-hannong.com/en/
They recommended Le Tire Bouchon for dinner, and it was one the most memorable meals we've ever had. https://www.letirebouchon.fr/fr/
With just one full day to experience Alsace, we booked the "Pearls of Alsace" small-group tour offered by Ophorus, and got a great taste of the area. Hopefully, we can return some day with more time to enjoy this unique region.

Do it!
My wife and I spent some in Strasbourg a couple of summers ago. We thought it would be just so-so--and low-key stop on a month-long vacation--but we quickly decided it was one of our favorite European cities. Beautiful, and walkable, city center with two defining sites: the cathedral, which towers over its square, and the Petite France district. Wandering around both areas--and maybe adding the boat tour (definitely uncovered if the weather is good)--would give you a full, enjoyable day. The Rick Steves guide has great dining suggestions, of course. We loved the cafes along the canal in Petite France (Au Petit Bois Vert and its neighbors) and also loved the feel of the Place du Gayot.
Thank you so much for the feedback. I really appreciate it!
Strasbourg is lovely and worth a stop. I very much agree with doing a stop in Alsace, if possible. If you won't have a car, you could stay in Colmar and look into possible tours to the wine route and the half timbered villages. If you do have a car, I would suggest staying in one of the villages for a couple nights.
Stay overnight in Strasbourg and add time to one of the Alsatian wine villages like Riquewehr.
At least day the night, yes. Such an important time, where, as one local told me, "all waterways meet." Le Petite Venice, the classes food, the slow walks down charming blocks. I cannot recommend the food enough, the historic buildings. Strausbourg needs more of your time, but I understand the rush.
Absolutely.
It's a very nice city. I need to go back. I made friends with a group of locals and spent most of my time at a restaurant/bar a short walk from the cathedral. I found a studio apartment on Airbnb that was one square over from the cathedral square for about 50 euro a night (in May 2017). If you like wine, the Gewurztraminer is my favorite Alsatian wine.
It’s absolutely worth seeing, it’s a beautiful and charming city. What time of year is your trip?
Thank you for your input... I think we decided that Strasbourg is worth a night. We haven't finalized any plans yet, but we are thinking of early/mid August and will be coming from Munich heading into Paris.
