Strasbourg in September

I am planning the Strasbourg portion of a trip for my husband and I in September and can't seem to find lodging. We will be coming from Bruges and need 3 nights in Strasbourg Sept. 24-27 depart for Rhine valley on the 28th. Is there a festival that I don't know of? we like small family run places, clean, walking distance to sites with Pvt bath/shower and breakfast included, nothing fancy really. We will be coming in by train and want to check out the area for possibly living here for awhile when we retire. Any suggestions greatly appreciated! thanks

Ditto if you check availability on Trivago. BTW, the Hotel Rohan was wonderful as was the restaurant Porcus.

Could have something to do with the European Parliament, but check booking.com. Seems to be availability there. Strasbourg is great, don't give up.

Have you checked Airbnb? I found a nice studio apartment for under 50 euro a night. Good building, good location, host was very accommodating. It's only available every other week because the owner uses it when he's in town. It was on a small square about a block from the cathedral, I think Place du Marche Neuf. If you're staying three nights, many of the places allow you to book instantly from the website.

No need to change hotels. A very easy day trip is the short train ride from Strasbourg is to Colmar, a pretty town with a few sights. You may also be able to catch one of the famous wine villages close by. I know that a bus runs from Colmar to Riquewihr, for example, but I don't know how frequently.
Baden-Baden is a bit more effort to get to but just doable by public transport. It gets mixed reviews but I enjoyed my short time there.

Well after a lot of looking I did finally book a small apartment that looks out at the national library for 4 nights as our base and will day trip from there. I haven't rented apartments before for our trips so the process is new to me and I am a little concerned about not having a reception in case we arrive late. I will figure it out though for sure! thanks for your advice and I am sure I will have more posts as I continue to plan the trip.
