Strasbourg, France what to do

I will be there 3 nites end of April.......
Hotel Beaucour - is that a nice place to stay?
Restaurat Gurtlerhoft - open for lunch? Need reservation?
Boat tour: which one? reservations needed?
Le Petite France: anything special to see or do?
What is a must see in Strasbourg?
Do I need to hire a guide or can I just use the walking tour map?

Thanks for any recommendations you can provide. I am eager to try the food!!!!!

I don’t know what your interests are, but if you’re at all interested in history and art, the cathedral in Strasbourg is a must see. It is magnificent, and there are also several museums that are worthwhile seeing. I especially liked the Alsatian Museum, which showcased the history of Alsace and its folklore. I would also suggest the Museum Œuvre Notre-Dame, which contains many original statues from the cathedral. It was well worth a visit.

A must see are things you want to see and not miss, not what others say you should see. For example, the museums Mardee enjoyed and suggested would bore me to death. I suggest you do some research to find things of interest to you. A good start point might include looking at the “things to see” section for Strasbourg on TripAdvisor.

Had not considered the Museum Oeuvre Notre-Dame. Good suggestion.
I hear that Rick S. thinks the boat tour is too short and not worth the money. Would you agree?

We enjoyed the boat tour we did last April. I don’t remember the name of the company, but we walked up and bought tickets. No reservation was needed.

Well, a confession that I didn’t take it because I was there in December and the wait was long. However I personally rarely turn down an opportunity for a boat ride of any length because I love being out and seeing things from the water. Yours and RS’ mileage may vary. Don’t get locked into the mindset of “what’s worth it” - that depends on your preferences.

I'm the same: love being out on the water and seeing buildings from that perspective.

Whatever you do, don’t pass up any opportunity to eat a tarte flambé, otherwise known by its German name of flammkuchen, especially if it’s “au feu de bois” or wood fired. Dang, now I’m drooling…

You can find videos on Youtube showing the boat tour, I enjoyed it but found it a bit long. You spend an awful lot of time going up a lock, boating around briefly, and then going back down the lock. I wish I had walked around the old town (I believe it's called Petit France) for longer. Rick covers all this pretty thoroughly in his videos and books.

Apparently you'll be really close to the German border if you want to walk to it and step over. Stop into several churches, you don't need to just do the cathedral.

Here are some ideas for what to do during your stay:

Visit the Strasbourg Cathedral: This iconic Gothic masterpiece is one of the tallest cathedrals in Europe and a symbol of the city. Its stunning stained glass windows and intricate carvings are sure to impress.

Explore the Petite France neighborhood: This picturesque area of Strasbourg is filled with half-timbered houses, small canals, and charming bridges. It's a great place to wander and take in the city's beauty.

Walk along the Ill River: The river that runs through Strasbourg offers some lovely views, especially at sunset. You can walk along the quayside or take a boat tour to see the city from a different perspective.

Visit the Alsatian Museum: This museum provides a great introduction to the history and culture of the Alsace region, of which Strasbourg is the capital.
