Strasbourg, France

I'm heading to Strasbourg France for a day.
The spouse has some work to do there and I'll play tourist for a day, then we will have a day together.

So I'm researching the location now.
Any suggestions on things to do.
I do NOT plan on having a car, should I bring one? Is there anything right outside of town that I'll need a car for?

Thanks

For a day, there's no way you'll need, or want, a car in Strasbourg. Driving and parking there is awful, and there's more than enough to do in the center. I don't remember precisely what we were did the times we were there, but I think it was mostly walking and going into some museums.

No car needed nor wanted. Enjoy your time in Strasbourg, which is a pleasure to stroll.

I loved the Alsatian Museum (folk collection). I took a river/canal cruise that was very interesting. You can take a 2-hour walking tour. The cathedral, of course. I enjoyed walking around. On your "alone" day, if you don't think there's enough in Strasbourg to see, you could take the train to charming Colmar for the day.

You don't need a car for the city, but I'll mention that there's a superb Michelin star nearby. L'Auberge de L'Ill. (That's the ILL river ... ) If you have the budget, or there's a special occasion near in the calendar, it was worth the stratospheric costs, both for atmosphere and food. Maybe the company has a shared car that's not busy in the evening?

Quite easy to spend a splendid day in Strasbourg! We were there for 10 days in 2017, and will be back for the whole summer this year.

I will echo what others have said: a stroll in La Petite France, a gander in and around the Cathedral (and maybe a trip to the top of the tower), and the Batorama boat cruise are all great options.

If you're looking for a spot to eat a leisurely lunch or dinner or sit back with a beverage, La Corde a Linge and Au Petit Bois Vert (or its 3 neighboring cafes) are great canal-side spots in La Petite France, and the various places encompassing la Place du Gayot offer a lively but tucked-away spot.

You can also get a fast and cheap train down to Colmar and have a great day there: covered market, Unterlinden museum, charming Alsatian architecture.

Thank you everyone for your quick responses
I'm doing research now and your input is appreciated.

I have taken you advice and am NOT taking a car. The only reason I was considering it was, incase there was something outside of town that I needed to see and a car would have been helpful.
NO worries, I'm leaving the car at home.

Thanks again.

One can spend more than a day in S-burg, but one shouldn't. You will be charmed by La Pettite France, but you will forget all about it with a day trip to Route de Vin Alsace or Colmar-- both nearby. Bus/train to Colmar, rent a bus tour to the Route de Vin.

Agree 100%. Especially enjoyed the boat cruise, and having a coffee watching the world walk by. Strasbourg was better than I hoped and I want to go back someday! I think you could spend 2 days there if you are going at a leisurely pace, but alternatively you could take a train to Colmar on your free day and then spend your day together in Strasbourg.

I wasn't as taken with Strasbourg as many others are, but a definite highlight was the Museum of Alsatian Life.
